Careers
Planning for the future is an exciting and important part of every student’s journey at Collingwood. We provide a comprehensive careers programme that helps students explore their interests, understand the opportunities available to them, and make confident, informed decisions about their next steps. Whether they are considering further education, apprenticeships or employment, our students are supported every step of the way.
A whole-college approach
Careers education is embedded across the curriculum and supported by a wide range of activities and experiences. From Year 7 onwards, students are encouraged to explore their interests, understand the world of work and consider the many pathways available to them. Our approach is inclusive, aspirational and tailored to meet the needs of every learner.
High-quality guidance and support
Students benefit from access to impartial, personalised advice and guidance throughout their time at Collingwood. This includes:
- Careers-focused lessons and activities across all year groups
- One-to-one guidance interviews with a qualified careers adviser
- Support with option choices, post-16 and post-18 planning
- Information on apprenticeships, further and higher education, and employment opportunities
Real-world experiences
We believe that meaningful encounters with employers and the workplace are essential to effective careers education. Our students take part in a wide range of opportunities, including:
- Employer talks and careers fairs
- Workplace visits and virtual experiences
- Work experience placements
- Mock interviews and CV workshops
These experiences help students to develop key employability skills and gain a clearer understanding of the expectations and opportunities in the world beyond school.
A framework for success
Our careers programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks, a nationally recognised framework for best practice in careers education. We regularly review and evaluate our provision to ensure it meets the needs of our students and reflects the changing landscape of education and employment.
