Safeguarding
The safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. We are proud to have a strong safeguarding culture where all staff share a collective responsibility to protect and support our young people. As Ofsted noted in our most recent inspection, “Safeguarding is a strength of the school.”
A whole-school commitment
Safeguarding at Collingwood is not the responsibility of one team - it is embedded in every aspect of College life. All staff receive regular training and updates, and are confident in recognising and responding to concerns. Our large and well-established safeguarding team is highly visible and works closely with teaching and pastoral staff to ensure that students feel safe, supported, and listened to.
Clear systems and trusted adults
Students know who to turn to if they need help, and they trust that their concerns will be taken seriously. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supported by Deputy DSLs and a dedicated safeguarding governor, ensures that safeguarding procedures are robust, up to date, and consistently followed. We maintain meticulous records and work closely with external agencies to provide timely and effective support.
Proactive and preventative
Safeguarding at Collingwood goes beyond responding to concerns - it’s about creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where students can thrive. Through our curriculum, assemblies, and pastoral programme, students are taught how to stay safe, both online and offline, and how to seek help when needed. We also provide targeted support for students who may be more vulnerable, including those with SEND or mental health needs.
Working in partnership
We believe that safeguarding is most effective when we work in partnership with families. Parents can be confident that their children are cared for by staff who are vigilant, compassionate, and committed to their wellbeing.
