A High Performing Specialist Academy for Technology & Applied Learning

15 September 2021

I am delighted to say that all students have settled back in to College life and I am especially pleased that Year 7 have made such a positive start given the lack of the usual induction events.  The Senior Leadership team have popped into a number of Year 7 lessons and have been very impressed by their smartness, good manners and positive attitude towards learning.

Dropping Off and Collecting Students by Car

Please can I  ask parents to be extremely careful as they drop off, collect and drive in their cars at the start and finish of each day, especially near the coach pick-up/drop-off points.  The safety of our students is paramount, and I would ask for your co-operation in this matter.  Students have been reminded in assemblies of their responsibilities in keeping safe and being particularly cautious at the end of each day as they cross roads and access transport.

College Travel Plan Accreditation

I am delighted to confirm that the College has been awarded Bronze accreditation by Modeshift STARS and the Safer Travel Team at Surrey County Council for our College travel plan.  The plan includes a range of initiatives aimed at encouraging more active and sustainable travel, and improving road safety for students and the local community. More information about Modeshift STARS and safe, sustainable travel is available here: https://www.modeshiftstars.org/staysafegetactive/

Parental Tours - Information for those Parents who have a Child in Year 6

These started on Monday and will continue until Thursday 21 October.  Parents, guided by senior staff and student leaders, will be looking around the College between approximately 9.00am and 10.30am each day.  Given the current situation, we will be requesting that parents and student guides wear face coverings and we will be walking past but not going into classrooms.  This will enable parents and their children to get a feeling for the classroom environment and the strong teacher-student relationships.  We are looking to see if we have any Year 7 classes working in large areas such as the theatre or sports hall so that parents and their children get an opportunity to talk to our younger students about how they have settled.

Main College Open Evenings - Information for those Parents who have a Child in Year 6

Given the ongoing concerns regarding Coronavirus we have decided to make a small number of changes to our usual format of these evenings with the health and safety of our staff, students and parents our priority.  We have decided to open up Kingston and Barossa buildings and we believe by using more of the campus that this will help avoid some of the crowded corridors and classrooms that sometimes occur at this very popular and well-attended event.  For the same reasons we will be utilising the one-way system that is now in operation at the College every day.  We would ask that parents consider using face coverings where social distancing cannot be maintained and follow the usual hand hygiene procedures.

For those parents who do not wish to attend the evening in person we will be providing PowerPoint presentations and virtual tours which will be available on our website.

Asymptomatic Home Testing for COVID-19

After the completion of our on-site testing programme, all College students are encouraged to continue to test at home twice per week using LFD tests supplied by the College. Test kits have been distributed this week and the government confirmed yesterday that regular home testing should continue until at least the end of the Autumn term.

Communicating with the College

Please remember to contact staff at the College via our Parent Communication system which is accessible via Edulink One. The online system will ensure that your communication receives an acknowledgement and a prompt response.  If you have not already received your log in details for Edulink One, please contact the College.
