A High Performing Specialist Academy for Technology & Applied Learning

20 July 2022

My thanks to all parents and carers for your support over the last year, which has certainly had its challenges!  My particular thanks for your positive emails supporting the decision to revert to remote learning over the last two days.  As you know, this decision was not taken lightly, but I was extremely grateful that many of you took the time to pass on your support.

We go into next year with an excellent Ofsted report, a balanced budget, further site improvements happening over the holidays (see below) and the prospect of some really good exam results.  Most importantly we have retained an exceptionally strong team of teaching, pastoral and support staff and, where necessary, we have recruited some talented new colleagues to join us in September.

This year has been an excellent one and I am confident that next year will be similarly successful.

I do hope you have an enjoyable summer holiday.

Staff Leavers and Joiners

A full list of staff leaving Collingwood at the end of this academic year and the names of new staff joining us in September will be published in the first newsletter on our return.

Planned Summer Works

The following significant maintenance works and upgrades are planned for the summer holiday period:

  • Continuation of fire safety upgrades in Kingston building and the start of works on extensive electrical and fire alarm upgrades
  • Landscaping and creation of outdoor social space for the Sixth Form
  • Classroom furniture replacement in 14 Barossa classrooms
  • Flooring replacement and wall cladding installation throughout Q Block and R Block (Kingston)
  • Redecoration of priority areas in F Block, H Block, V Block and G Block
  • New recreational playground equipment
  • Upgrade of heating/boiler plant controls in Kingston building.

Advice from Surrey County Council

You may have seen in the press some very sad cases of young people getting into difficulties when swimming in unsupervised sites.  Please impress upon your son or daughter the importance of following the government guidelines that is:

  • Swim only in designated and supervised areas
  • Swim with others
  • Stay close to shore
  • Be aware that water temperatures may be lower than you would expect.

July Reports

I am delighted to say that the Attitude To Learning (ATL) and engagement in lessons from our students this academic year following the disruption from COVID has continued to be fabulous.  It was a pleasure to read the end of year reports and have this confirmed by the ATL data below:

Year

Platinum or Green ATL

7

96%

8

94%

9

90%

10

88%

Furthermore, I am pleased that 61% (Years 7-10) gained either a double or triple Platinum July report. We also had an impressive 14 students from Years 7-10 who gained ‘perfect’ reports which is an outstanding achievement.  I would like to congratulate all students on their successes which bodes well for the next academic year.  Well done!
