Volunteer Enterprise Adviser required
Volunteering as an Enterprise Adviser is a great way to support our school. It is a hugely rewarding role that will give you the chance to make a difference to our young people, by utilising your business knowledge and experience.
Give something back to your community by helping the school to develop a quality, sustainable careers programme. We require a single volunteer with strategic experience, who can engage with key stakeholders and build upon our whole school approach. As a business leader in the community, whether corporate or SME, you will act as an ambassador sharing ways of engaging with the school through your business network.
The time commitment amounts to roughly 3 hours every half term, for a minimum period of a year. It will also be virtual until further notice, conducted over Microsoft Teams, emails and phone calls.

Year 12 A level Business students took part in a Virtual talk with David Landsman, organised by Speakers For School. He talked about his career and being Director of Tata Limited.
During their lesson on Friday students studying the three-year Citizenship GCSE had a Teams call with the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesman for Surrey Heath Mr Alasdair Pinkerton. Students were able to interview him and question him on his background and what got him into politics as well as ask questions about his views on issues to do with international, national and local politics.
Mr Pinkerton lives locally with his family and his regular job is working as an Associate Professor of Geopolitics at Royal Holloway University of London. He only joined the Liberal Democrat Party last year, was quickly selected as the candidate for the Liberal Democrats in September 2019 and stood in the general election in December 2019.
He answered all of our questions openly, informatively and in depth, giving an excellent account of what it was like to stand as a political candidate. Students asked questions such as ‘What was it like to lose an election? How do you intend to win the next one? Do you think social media helps or hinders politics? Do you think British politics is broken? Do you think politics should be taught more in schools? The students were fantastic ambassadors for Collingwood and Mr Pinkerton praised them for their knowledge, interest and enthusiasm.
He gave an inspiring insight into why we should be aware of the world around us and be active citizens in trying to make a difference, especially when it comes to the issues that matter to us and our communities. We hope to interview the Conservative MP Sir Michael Gove who won the seat for Surrey Heath in 2019 to get an alternative point of view, but in the meantime we are very appreciative of the time and patience shown by Mr Pinkerton and hope to welcome him in person to speak to more Citizenship students at a later date.
