A High Performing Specialist Academy for Technology & Applied Learning

Collingwood students set new records for the number of GCSE grades awarded at A* or A! The previous best was way back in 2009 when 31.3% of entries gained the top grades.  In 2016 students showed that they were aiming high with 31.5% at this level!  In addition, 27% of students achieved at least 5 subjects at A*/A which was even better than last year's fantastic achievement.  After the inspiration of Team GB beating so many records in Rio, we are delighted that the Collingwood Class of 2016 are also record breakers!

This year 78% of grades were at A*-C and 77% of students passed at least 5 or more higher grade passes.  67% of students achieved at least 5 or more higher grade passes including English and Maths.

Although we were fully expecting this group of students to do well, we were absolutely delighted that they were able to continue to improve on 2015 and set a new record for top grades. Everyone knows that the top grades require a lot of dedicated teaching and support and the expectations from examination boards are increasing year on year so this is particularly pleasing.  Collingwood has always been renown for good results but over the past three years, top grades have increased steadily:

There were many excellent department performances this year.

Over 90% A*-C: Applied Art, Photography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, Food Technology, Dance, Engineering, Drama, German, Level 2 Project, ECDL Certificate in IT

Over 80% A*-C: Art, English, French, Geography, History, Additional Maths, Media Studies, BTEC Music, PE, Statistics

There were many amazing results for individual students.  We were very proud of everyone but wish to mention Harry Whelan who will sadly be leaving us.  He has been awarded a full scholarship at Eton College, where we know he will continue to excel! He will take with him 9 A*s and 4 A grades as well as Distinctions in Grade 5 LAMDA qualifications, which should set him in very good stead!

Sophia Watson and Jonathan Quinn both achieved 13 A* grades and Charlotte To, Jon Carlisle and Ollie Grove all achieved 9 A*s.

We congratulate all our students on their results and look forward to welcoming them into the 6th Form next month!
