Student describes her Work Experience being backstage at The Lion King

On Saturday 11th November I travelled to the Lyceum Theatre in London with George Asprey who plays Scar in the Lion King.  As I am interested in hair and makeup I was given the opportunity by George Asprey to do some work experience backstage in the makeup room.  I firstly got to look at all the makeup looks that they do in the Lion King, in the book that they call ‘The Bible’.  All the actors and actresses had gone to their warm up and afterwards they all started coming up to the makeup room. I watched all the makeup looks being done and got to see all the wigs they use in the production. There were members of the production coming up to the makeup room before the show and throughout the first half and it was amazing to meet the majority of the production team.  All the makeup was done before the first half finished and I then got given the opportunity to watch the second half in a box right next to the stage. It was incredible to see all the makeup and costumes on stage and to be able to watch the stunning production.  It was amazing to be given the opportunity and has definitely inspired me and given me more ideas about what career path I would like to take. The experience is something I will never forget.
