College Emergency Closure Procedures

It is always our intention to keep the College open for normal teaching as long as it is safe for students and staff.  In the event of adverse weather or a similar emergency, the Principal will conduct a risk assessment, which will take into account the current weather conditions, the forecast for the day, local road conditions, the condition of the College site and the number of College staff who are likely to be absent.

Where we are unable to offer a safe and high quality educational experience for students, we will make the decision to close the College. Any decision will be made early in the morning, and by 7am.

Staff, students and parents will be notified of a closure by email and text message.  A notification will also be added to homepage of the College website www.collingwoodcollege.com.

In the event of snow, it is therefore vital that students and parents check on the website before leaving the College.

The College will also inform:

  • Surrey County Council so details can be added to their website
  • Local radio stations:
    a.   BBC Surrey - 104.04 & 104.6 FM
    b.   Greatest Hits Radio - 96.0 - 107.9 MHz; DAB; Freeview 71

After the initial notification, staff and parents will also receive a further email with details about the closure and whether we expect to open on the following day(s).

Students must check OneNote/Teams where they will find work that should be completed whilst the College is closed.

Should a situation arise where we have to close the College during the day you will be notified as above.

Students will remain in supervised classrooms until such time that arrangements have been put in place for them to go home.
